My Oatmeal

May 22, 2007

A cup of raw oats + two tablespoons of Milo + two teaspoons of sugar + hot water = My snack in-between meals.

Oatmeal has been my comfort food every time I was sick. I remember my mom cooking a batch on my favorite glass casserole. She’d add evaporated milk and sugar, stir, cool it up, and then let’s me have a taste if I liked it. I would nod. Then she’d get a ladle, and place it in a bowl, I move to the table and sit down. She’d put the bowl and a glass of water (or Milo) on a tray, and serve it to me like a king. I can’t recall if she’d give me a kiss on the forehead, but I know the oats were cooked with love.

Nowadays, during my office hours, I’d take my time preparing my oatmeal. Remembering how my mom used to do it; minus the casserole, the evaporated milk, and the peck on the forehead.

Aww.. I miss you, ma. T__T
