Bloody Post

March 1, 2007

WARNING: To all those who have a weak heart, DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER. What you are about to see contains blood.

I donated blood for an officemate’s mother. At the time, she was going to get a heart bypass surgery because 6 of her major arteries were clogged. See the picture of my arm? Vetz, a friend of mine, reacted: “grabe! parang hindi na needle yun! pako na ata!” (Wow, I don’t think it’s a needle! It’s a nail!)

Hmm, this is my 2nd time to actually donate blood (also known as “bleed”). 😀 The first time they had to bleed both my arms coz my left arm was not bleeding properly. I guess being nervous really does take a toll on your veins. But being a testosterone driven creature, I was acting brave (and was asking the person a lot of questions).

Donating blood has benefits for the body.  It is suggested that we bleed at least every 3 months.  Not only are we helping others by offering our blood, we’re also training our bone marrow to get used to producing red blood cells (RBC).  Our blood also gets a bit more refreshed because new RBCs are present.  Right now, I feel a bit more invigorated, and my pimples aren’t growing as much. hahaha! An advantage also if we met with an accident (God forbid) and lose a lot of blood, our bone marrows won’t be as shocked as it would be. 😀

*looking back at my arm pic* “Oh my God! It’s not a needle… It’s a NEEEEDOOOLLLL!!!!”

I don’t know yet the status of my officemate’s mother, but I do hope our blood did good for her. 🙂 I pray the operation goes (or went) well. 🙂

God bless!
